Understanding formats and folds

Find the right size and the right fold before choosing your template.

The most common formats, shown to scale against one another.

Fold types

Single fold, 2 panelsOne central fold. The sheet folds into two equal parts.

Roll fold, 3 panelsThe right panel folds inward first, slightly narrower so it tucks in cleanly.

Accordion fold, 3 panelsThe folds alternate one way then the other, like a zigzag.

Accordion fold, 4 panelsFour panels folded in a zigzag, each fold reversing the previous one.

Gate foldThe two outer panels fold toward the centre to meet in the middle.

Valley fold Mountain fold

On heavy papers, folds are creased so the ink does not crack.

Every template is generated from the product's real dimensions. It carries the trim line, the bleed, the safe zone and, if you want them, the fold marks.

Files are PDFs, ready to open in your layout software. For a size that is not listed, just ask us.
